According to Reuters, Intel has bid $2 billion to acquire SiFive, a 6-year-old RISC-V chip design company.
When it raised funds for the last time-last year’s $61 million E series-SiFive was valued at $500 million. In 2019, its D round of financing was 65.4 million US dollars, and Intel’s C round of financing accounted for a major share of 50.6 million US dollars. The total investment raised till date is US$186 million.
The value of SiFive may increase due to Nvidia’s $40 billion acquisition of Arm, which is thought to encourage Arm customers to switch to SiFive.
SiFive’s investors include: Hynix, Spark Capital, Prosperity7 Ventures, Sutter Hill Ventures, Chengwei Capital, Osage University Partners, Huami, Qualcomm and Western Digital.
